40 Is The New 20!

Your Question, Ilene’s Answer…

I just turned 40 and have been home with my three
children for the last 7 years.  My youngest is now in
first grade and I am itching to get back to work.  I
have always dreamed of starting a business, but now I
am wondering if my “dream” is a bit unrealistic at
this later phase of my life.  Any thoughts?

My first thought is that you are young!

The majority of my clients are mothers in their
mid-thirties to late-forties who have decided to grow
a business out of a passion.  When you look at life
expectancy for women of our generation, you
potentially could have another 50 or more years to
live...plenty of time to create and develop a
stimulating business!  If you were to launch a
business within the next several years, you could
realistically have 25 or more years to grow your
company.

For entrepreneurs, I like to look at 40 as the new 20
– of course with much more maturity, experience and
clarity!

I always encourage clients to view life in phases…it
sounds like you are entering a phase that will offer
more time to focus on yourself and your professional
development – an ideal time to pursue a dream! To lay
a fertile foundation for your business endeavor, take
time to reflect on your interests, skill set, passion
and values.

Embrace your youth and have fun!
