Organizational Overview
City Year unites a diverse corps of young adults, ages 17 to 24, for a demanding year of full-time community service and leadership development. These young leaders work as tutors and mentors to school children and mobilize volunteers in physical community service projects. Founded in 1988 in Boston, City Year now has 1,500 corps members serving in 17 cities across the U.S. and in South Africa. City Year Los Angeles was founded in 2007 and has ambitious plans to grow the program dramatically over the next few years.

Position Overview
The Young Heroes Program Manager oversees all aspects of the local Young Heroes program, working to ensure the attainment of all crucial programmatic and strategic goals. Meeting on Saturdays from December to May, the program brings together middle school students from schools throughout the community to work on diverse teams addressing the city’s most pressing social problems. By serving their community, the Heroes build on their commitment, creating a civic identity and a habit of active citizenship. The Young Heroes Program Manager is responsible for the overall management of the day-to-day team-based operations of 8 corps members.

Responsibilities
The PM is responsible for:
• Day-to-day leadership/management of corps members including planning full-team meetings, coordinating participation in CY initiatives (roundtables, presentations, etc.), timesheets/hours tracking, etc;.
• Performance Management (including tracking of departmental goals-to-actuals, rewards, disciplinary action, written evaluations, etc.);
• Providing regular updates on program achievements and challenges to the national Young Heroes Director;
• Ensuring smooth communication between site departments;
• Managing team’s in-school part-time service project;
• Developing of all CMs including Civic Leadership Competencies and LACY plans.

Qualifications
• Training/experience supervising and leading young adults and working with middle school-age youth, leadership development, project management, conflict resolution, working with middle school students, program/curriculum design, etc.;
• Experience with and passion for working with 17-24 year olds;
• Proven organizational and project management and relationship management abilities;
• Experience working in non-profit, social service or educational settings;
• Exhibit strong desire and ability to work and collaborate with an inclusive team;
• Ability to work as both a team member and independent leader;
• Training/experience relevant to Young Heroes programming a plus (social justice/civics education, leading inclusive groups, conflict resolution, curriculum design/delivery, etc.)
• AmeriCorps / City Year Alumni encouraged to apply;
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
