Last night, several PRWeek staffers joined industry professionals to celebrate the recipients of the 2009 Lagrant Foundation Scholarships, which honor ethnic minority students pursing a degree in advertising, marketing, or PR. The awards program and reception, held at New York University’s Kimmel Center, was emceed by CNN’s Jason Carroll and featured a brief speech from Lagrant Foundation founder and chairman, Kim Hunter.
Ten undergraduate students received $5,000 scholarships, while five graduate students received $10,000. The undergraduate scholarship winners were Steven Bram (San Diego State University), Debbie Ebalobo (University of Georgia), Jonathan Gipson (Rutgers University), Diana Jimenez (University of Texas, Austin), Tiia Koppel (University of Washington, Seattle), Bentley Lopez (University of Southern California), Francesca Murray (California State University, Long Beach), Christine Nieves (University of Pennsylvania), Phillip Parris (Medgar Evers College), and Karmen Ponder-Moore (University of Oklahoma). Graduate student recipients were Danielle English (University of Denver), Kaneisha Grayson (Harvard Business School), Erick Laseca (Northwestern University), Sara Morgan (Emerson College), and Sharell Weeams (University of Dallas).
