Each year, I make a few New Year’s resolutions. Over the years, I’ve found that I am most successful when my resolutions are simple, measurable, and easy to manage. Examples include: arrive five minutes early for all appointments; eat one serving of fruit every day; call my mom once a week.

We had 4 goals for this summer’s vacation:

1)    Visit a foreign country and live as a local as much as possible.
2)    Learn a new sport (surfing).
3)    Get away from it all (no T.V., crackberry, etc.)
4)    Not break the bank!

Do you find we are all constantly trying to keep it together while the world around seems to be in chaos? Whether its global warming, the war, or simply that your child received another time out on the playground....we search for calm in the storm. I am finding a trend these days in paintings that shows that objects can seem calm, traditional and 'right' and yet....what's this? Movement in a still life? Motion on a canvas that is supposed to be still?
