Dear Marin County MomsRising Member,

Did you know that for the first time in our nation's history, women are half of all U.S. workers, and mothers are the primary or co-breadwinners for almost 2/3 of American families?  These facts (and more!) have just been released in a report co-authored by Maria Shriver and the Center for American Progress. Is Jack Right? Is there “No Such Thing as Work-Life Balance”?

What an offensive article. I know tons of men who take Sabbaticals
for all sorts of reasons - to travel to Asia, to write a book, to
start a company (then put it aside when it is not successful) - with
the result being a career boost for being so interesting. The thing
we should hear most loudly from Jack Welch is his focus on women.
"Women who take time off for children" suffer in their careers,

Balancing it all

Are you back to work for the first time in a long time? Or have you recently become the primary breadwinner or a more important breadwinner due to a layoff or less work for your husband?
How's it going? What has changed around home?

I'm writing a story for SF Magazine about this transition time with moms heading back to work. Very interested in what you're feeling....You can email me offline or post here. dekapp@mac.com ---Best, Diana
