Are women going back to work due to the financial crisis? You Bet!

Last week we asked our members how the financial crisis was impacting them. We were overwhelmed with the response. Anyone questioning whether the financial crisis is real just needed to camp out in our inbox last week. We heard from SAHM’s looking to OnRamp after many years at home, moms moving from part-time to full-time, women working full-time, but wanting to explore their options because they thought they might get laid off, women on maternity leave scrapping their OffRamp plans and planning to return to work, women struggling to find work after being laid off , struggling small business owners seeking the security of paid work, and many stories of single moms trying to make ends meet. Yes, the crisis is real and many women don’t know where to begin to find work.

So, we asked our members the next logical question, Who’s hiring? As expected, we did not receive nearly as many responses but we did zero in our what skills are currently in demand. There may be a lot of people looking for work, but there is still a talent shortage in many fields. Here’s what we learned:

Skills in demand:

CPAs with Big Four or public co experience are always in great demand
Engineers-Honeywell Returnship progam,
IT talent-software developers, health care IT professionals, User Experience folks, Flash designers & Actionscript developers
environmental engineering consultants
RIF specialists (Reduction in Force)
Employment Attorneys
Tech Recruiters
Healthcare-Kaiser is always hiring
Strong sales consultants- Etcetera, Arbonne International, Nina McLemore, Inc
Financial consultants-Major Investment Bank
